Foster Reid Clement and Family’s Graves & Monument

“…From around 1910 the house was owned by Lillian and Foster Clement, a retired lawyer and banker. Soon after it was a[c]quired by the Clements, they hired local architect Frank L. Austin to design the Colonial Revival style porches and veranda that were added to the front, south side and rear of the house. FosterContinue reading “Foster Reid Clement and Family’s Graves & Monument”

Lakeview Cemetery with a Crypt!

I decided to walk a section I had never visited before at Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington, Vermont. As I did so, I discovered a small crypt designed for two people to lie side-by-side. It appeared to be created from Barre granite, which is a light gray granite. Sturdy, solid, permanent and screams “forever”.

Fog Rolling Over Lake Champlain

“The recent cold weather was accompanied by interesting fog over the open water of our lakes. Fog is essentially a ground-hugging cloud, composed of tiny liquid water droplets. This particular fog, called a steam fog, forms when cold air drifts across relatively warm water. The lake water evaporates into the air above the lake surface.Continue reading “Fog Rolling Over Lake Champlain”

Old Glory Waving Over Military Graves

Once I saw those flags standing straight out due to the strong winds, I knew I had to film. I am always awed by flags standing at attention. And that’s especially true when flags are flying over military graves. These soldiers, Union soldiers, who fought during the American Civil War, deserve this respect.

Peonies Passing on By!

“…Often, peonies were planted at the head of graves in cemeteries, assuring there would always be flowers in memory should there be no one left to decorate them. Once planted, peonies were good for a hundred years or more… …Nothing could be easier to grow than a peony. They thrive on neglect once established. TheContinue reading “Peonies Passing on By!”

Children’s Graves Revisited at Lakeview Cemetery

When I filmed these children’s graves back in June 2021, several headstones were tipped forward. This made some of them unreadable. There were others that were leaning in other directions as well. In September 2022, people from the Howard Center and the Vermont Old Cemetery Association joined forces to straighten these headstones. I must sayContinue reading “Children’s Graves Revisited at Lakeview Cemetery”

Receiving Vault with Shelves and Working Rollers!!

The first burial in Lake View Cemetery was in 1799. There are 1286 graves. Although it is across from St. Genevieve Cemetery, it is otherwise surrounded by empty land. “A receiving vault or receiving tomb,[1] sometimes also known as a public vault, is a structure designed to temporarily store dead bodies in winter months whenContinue reading “Receiving Vault with Shelves and Working Rollers!!”

Strolling Lakeview Cemetery #14

In today’s video, I am strolling a bit of a newer area. It is nestled among older headstones and monuments. I was drawn to it because two headstones included photographs of men who died far too young. One of them was only 20! Too sad to think about. My plan with these Lakeview strolls isContinue reading “Strolling Lakeview Cemetery #14”

Gorgeous Trees of Lakeview Cemetery

As I filmed in one of my favorite local cemeteries, Lakeview, I thought the trees there deserved a video of their own. Hence, the topic of today’s video. Nope, I know nothing about trees except how much I love them. Please join me as I walked around an area near the lake and enjoy theContinue reading “Gorgeous Trees of Lakeview Cemetery”

Strolling Lakeview Cemetery #13

I strolled another section of Lakeview Cemetery yesterday. You’ll see an American Civil War grave, several smaller stones, which say “Father” or Mother” and no other name, and one plot with LOTS of family members buried around it. The first burial was in 1800. There are one 10,300 graves. In fact, Lakeview Cemetery still allowsContinue reading “Strolling Lakeview Cemetery #13”
