Cyrus Brush: Musician, American Civil War

Cyrus Brush was born on November 21, 1818 in Fairfax, Vermont. He enlisted on August 30, 1862. He mustered in on October 21, 1862 as a Musician with Company E of the 14th Vermont Infantry. Brush mustered out on July 30, 1863. I had read that musicians typically served one year stints.

He applied for a pension on June 1, 1878. Brush died on December 3, 1908.

Obituary from the St. Albans Daily Messenger and dated December 10, 1908:

“Cyrus Brush, aged 90 years, died at the home of his son, Charles Brush, of Middlebury, Thursday evening. He is survived by two sons, Charles Brush, of Middlebury, and William Brush of Ticonderoga, N.Y. [New York]. Mr. Brush served in the Civil War, going out in the Fourteenth Vermont Regiment.”-Vermont in the Civil War: Lest We Forget
