Jacob Leno: American Civil War

Jacob Leno was born in 1845 in Henryville, Canada-East. He enlisted in the Union Army on January 28, 1862. He mustered in on February 12, 1862 as a Private with Company C in the 7th Vermont Infantry. Jacob died from disease on December 8, 1862.

His wife, Delia, applied for a pension on January 15, 1863. Plus, someone applied on behalf of a minor on July 23, 1864.

Jacob Leno died far too young on December 8, 1862. He was only 16 or 17 years of age. There is a cenotaph placed at Prospect Cemetery in East Middlebury, Vermont. He is actually buried in Pensacola, Florida at the Barrancas National Cemetery.

A cenotaph is “a monument to someone buried elsewhere, especially one commemorating people who died in a war.”
