Sargie’s aggression took quite the nasty turn around 5am Saturday morning. As I was petting him and whilst I was half asleep, he bit my right arm 5 or 6 times. As I grabbed him to toss him to the floor, he swung his head hard to the right and bit me another 1 or 2 times.
I called the vet to report this. Although I had an appointment on April 17 to put Sargie down, it has been moved to April 10. The reason is two-fold.
Reason 1: His aggression is likely a sign that he’s uncomfortable or even in pain. So, he’s taking it out on me.
Reason 2: I should feel safe around him. I should not fear what he may do next. He has become meaner, overall. And I am sometimes afraid he’ll hurt me as I sleep.
So, on Monday, April 10, 2023, a friend will drive us to Sargie’s last vet visit. He’ll be sedated before ultimately receiving the medication that will send him across the Rainbow Bridge.
Admittedly, my heart is breaking and I’m a sobbing mess. It’s a part of life when adopting pets. Shall I eventually adopt another cat? I don’t know. Sargie was my second cat.
