Book Recommendation: Reader’s Digest Treasury of Best Loved Songs

Today’s video is a bit of a departure from my usual fare. I have opted to recommend a piano book, which has history tidbits of the songs. Plus, I play a song from the book and my cat, Sargie, makes an appearance. He may be the best part; it’s hard to say!

Reader’s Digest Treasury of Best Loved Songs: 114 All Time Family Favorites
by William L. Simon (Editor)

The book is a compendium of 114 popular songs from every decade since the turn of the century (1900’s) and folk songs that go back even further.

There are Broadway melodies, film hits, country music gems and inspiring songs of faith. The arrangements were designed for musicians of everyday ability. They are easy to play and yet they sound full, modern and thoroughly professional.

The words are included for each song. The book is conveniently organized by the following topics:

*Medium and bright waltzes
*Slow waltzes
*With a little bit of rock beat
*Latin rhythms
*Sing-along fun
*Barbershop ballads
*For that special girl
*For special occasions – anniversary, Christmas, patriotic, wedding
*Especially for the youngsters
*Places to sing about
*Songs introduced in films
*Songs introduced in Broadway shows”-

This piano book is filled with so many awesome songs! I play from it regularly. The song I perform in the video is my favorite from this book!
