The General William Wells House

In today’s video, https://youtu.be/NGVOR7BTouA, I tell you about Brevet Major General William Wells who was the first owner of 158 South Willard Street in Burlington, VT.

He served during the US Civil War as a Union soldier in the cavalry.  He went in a private and was mustered out Brevet Major General.  He was the most promoted Vermonter during the American Civil War.

Before the war, he worked for his father in their drug business located in Waterbury, VT.  After his brothers and he returned to VT, they decided to move the family drug business to Burlington.  Once they did that, they never looked back!  You may have heard of their business: Well Richardson and Company.  The building is still standing on lower College Street.
